Tajhat Palace

Tajhat Palace

Tajhat Palace, also known as Tajhat Rajbari, is a historic site in Rangpur, Bangladesh, located six kilometers southeast of the city. This two-storey palace, featuring a striking 76-meter frontage, showcases a grand staircase made of imported white marble that leads to an upper portico. Its distinctive ribbed conical dome is supported by slender semi-Corinthian columns, though many original marble sculptures have been removed. The U-shaped design includes a large hall and a corridor lined with 22 apartments. Built by Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy in the early 20th century, the palace served as a branch of the Supreme Court from 1984 to 1991. In 2005, it became the site of the Rangpur Museum, displaying artifacts like 10th-11th century terracotta pieces, rare manuscripts, and Hindu carvings. Photography is not allowed in the museum, which highlights the palace's architectural and cultural significance.
