Kantanagar Temple, also known as Kantaji Temple or Kantajew Temple, is a significant Hindu temple located in Dinajpur, Bangladesh. Constructed in the 18th century, it is dedicated to Krishna and his wife Rukmini, revered by their devotees in Bengal. Initiated by Maharaja Pran Nath in 1704 CE, the temple was completed by his son Raja Ramnath in 1722 CE.
An exemplary piece of terracotta architecture, the temple originally featured nine spires, all of which were destroyed in an earthquake in 1897. Built in the navaratna (nine-spired) style, it showcases distinctive elements such as wide multi-cusped arches, intricately plastered walls with rectangular and square panels, and a prominent central archway. The temple also features ornamental turrets, semi-octagonal mirirab openings, and beautifully designed domes with lotus and kalasa finials. Though it has faced destruction, Kantanagar Temple remains a remarkable testament to the architectural heritage of Bangladesh.
