Nayabad Mosque

Nayabad Mosque

Nayabad Mosque is located on the banks of the Dhepa River in Nayabad village, Ramchandrapur Union, Kaharol Thana, about 20 km northwest of Dinajpur town. Built on approximately 1.15 bighas of land, the mosque has been renovated by the Department of Archaeology, Bangladesh, and a madrasa has recently been constructed nearby.

An inscription on the central doorway indicates that the mosque was built on 2 Jyaistha, 1200 BS (1793 AD) during the reign of Emperor Shah Alam II. Local tradition suggests it was constructed by Muslim craftsmen who had come to build the Kantanagar Temple in the mid-18th century and settled in Nayabad.

The mosque is an oblong structure with three domes and octagonal corner towers, measuring 12.45m by 5.5m externally. It features three arched entrances, three mihrabs, and is adorned with terracotta plaques, some depicting floral motifs and a pair of peacocks, though many have become loose or damaged over time.
