Tista Barrage

Tista Barrage

Teesta Barrage, or Teesta Irrigation Project, is the largest irrigation project in Bangladesh. Located on the Teesta River, one side of the barrage is in the Doani village of the Gaddimari Union in the Hatibandha Upazila of Lalmonirhat District, while the other side is in the Dalia area of the Khalisha Chapani Union in the Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari District. To provide irrigation facilities to the uncultivated lands of Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, and Bogura districts, the then government planned the construction of the Teesta Barrage in 1937. Subsequently, the construction of the barrage, featuring 44 radial gates and measuring 615 meters in length, began in 1979 and was completed in 1990.

A green belt has been developed on both sides of the Teesta Barrage, and the area includes several picnic spots. The black tar road along the barrage, coupled with the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding environment, draws visitors in with an enchanting charm.
