Saidpur Railway Workshop, located in the picturesque Nilphamari District of Bangladesh, stands as a vital hub for railway maintenance and repair, operated by Bangladesh Railway. As the largest railway workshop in the country, it is one of only two such facilities in Bangladesh, the other being the Pahartali Railway Workshop in Chittagong.
Established in 1870, the workshop began its journey as a meter-gauge steam locomotive repair shed on a sprawling 110-acre site. Over the years, it has evolved significantly; by 1953, it was fully equipped with advanced plants and machinery for both meter-gauge and broad-gauge coaches and wagons, expanding its footprint to an impressive 800 acres.
Within this extensive complex, 25 specialized shops are dedicated to various repair tasks, producing around 1,200 spare parts and tools essential for carriage and wagon maintenance. The Saidpur Railway Workshop not only plays a crucial role in the country's railway infrastructure but also stands as a testament to Bangladesh's commitment to advancing its transportation capabilities.
